So Stoned

Well, my kidney stone is still with me. I got confirmation last night during a visit to the ER. Yesterday I talked to the doctor I saw on Monday and he said I should get an ultra sound or CT scan to make sure there isn't any blockage. That can cause infection and permanent kidney damage. Something I would like to avoid. So despite my frugal ways (read: I can't believe I'm going to spend $100 just to walk into the ER), I went. It's just too scary not knowing what is going on inside my body causing pain.

I must say, if you find yourself in Albuquerque with an extra $100 and nothing better to do on a Friday night, I highly recommend visiting the Lovelace Westside Emergency Room. Well-equipped, friendly staff, plasma TVs in the waiting areas, plenty of magazines, and unlimited access to a coffee/espresso machine.

I had a kidney stone a few years ago. It hurt for a couple days, passed, and that was it. This episode has been 5 days of pain and it's still making its journey from point A to point B. Honestly, it's a relief to know it's just a stone. While I was waiting an hour for the scan results, I had myself convinced it must be something worse. Like a cyst. Or appendicitis. Or cancer. But it's not. It's just a kidney stone - while an annoyance, not life-threatening.

So I drink lots of water, use a strainer in the bathroom, and wait . . .

Tropic Thunder

By far the funniest movie I have seen in a long time. It was so entertaining that a couple days after watching it, I turned it on again with the commentary from Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black. I've never listened to commentary with a movie before, but it was great. They were, of course, very funny. But it was also interesting to hear what they commented on. Interesting details they noticed about themselves and others that probably only an actor would see. Anyway, I highly recommend Tropic Thunder.

Thanksgiving Weekend: The Movie

The new version of Picasa - a free photo organizing and editing program from Google - has a feature where you can create a movie based on photos and music. It was really easy and fun to do. Enjoy!
